Einige geschichtsbegeisterte Lesben und Schwule gründeten im April 1999 das selbstorganisierte Archiv forum homosexualität münchen e.V. Seitdem arbeiten sie daran, aktuelle kulturelle und wissenschaftliche Beiträge und Erkenntnisse zu Alltag, Kultur und Geschichte von Lesben, Schwulen, Transsexuellen und Bisexuellen zu fördern, zu sammeln und für weitere Forschungen und die breitere Öffentlichkeit zugänglich zu machen.
Philipp Gufler ist seit 2013 Mitglied des Archivs und realisierte 2014 die Videoinstallation und das gleichnamige Künstlerbuch Projektion auf die Krise (Gauweilereien in München), in denen er sich mit den 1980er Jahren und dem AIDS-Maßnahmenkatalog der damaligen bayerischen Staatsregierung auseinandersetzt.
Das Künstlerbuch I Wanna Give You Devotion entstand parallel zur gleichnamigen Installation von Philipp Gufler in München 2017. Dafür hat Gufler 29 Künstler*innen und Kollektive eingeladen, die Postersammlung von forum homosexualität münchen e.V. zu befragen, zu erweitern und zu aktualisieren. Diese neuen Poster wurden gemeinsam mit historischen Postern der Sammlung präsentiert, wodurch ein dichtes Geflecht aus aktuellem und historischem Material entstanden ist.
Seither sind im Rahmen seiner Forschung im forum homosexualität münchen e.V. weitere Arbeiten entstanden wie die Siebdruck-Serie Quilt oder die temporäre Bar Bei Cosy 2017 in Zusammenarbeit mit Richard John Jones im Rongwrong in Amsterdam.
Philipp Gufler wird bei I Wanna Give You Devotion aus seinem Künstlerbuch Indirekte Berührung (2017) lesen; in einem Gespräch mit Léon Kruijswijk (Curatorial Fellow der KW) liefert er zudem einen vertiefenden Einblick in seine künstlerische Recherche.
Die Veranstaltung findet in Kooperation mit BQ, Berlin statt. Am 28. Februar um 20 Uhr wird der Film Projektion auf die Krise (Gauweilereien in München) von Philipp Gufler parallel zur bereits laufenden Einzelausstellung King Louis II im Projektraum von BQ (QBBQ’s) in der Rosa-Luxemburg-Straße 15 präsentiert. Die Ausstellung läuft bis zum 16. März 2019.

In April 1999, a collective of lesbians and gays with a passion for history founded the self-organized archive forum homosexualität münchen e.V. Ever since the members have been working to promote and collect current cultural and scientific contributions and findings on the everyday life, culture and history of lesbians, gays, transsexuals and bisexuals to make them accessible for further research, but also for a wider public.
Philipp Gufler has been a member of the archive since 2013. He created the video installation and artist book Projektionen auf die Krise (Gauweilereien in München) in 2014, in which he deals with the measures of the 1980s Bavarian state government regarding AIDS.
In 2017 in Munich Gufler created the installation and the eponymous book I Wanna Give You Devotion. He invited 29 artists and collectives to question, expand and update the poster collection of the forum homosexualität münchen e.V. These new posters were exhibited along with historical posters from the collection, creating a dense network of contemporary and historical material.
The artist continued to produce works evolving from his research in the forum homosexualität münchen e.V., such as the silkscreen series Quilt or the temporary bar Bei Cosy, created in collaboration with Richard John Jones at Rongwrong, in Amsterdam in 2017.
During I Wanna Give you Devotion, Gufler will read from his artist book Indirect Contact (2017, German title: Indirekte Berührung). Moreover, a conversation between him and Léon Kruijswijk (curatorial fellow, KW) will provide a deeper insight into Gufler´s artistic research.
The event is organized in collaboration with BQ, Berlin. On 28 February at 20h, Gufler’s work Projektion auf die Krise (Gauweilereien in München) will be screened in the framework of the solo exhibition King Louis II in BQ’s project space QBBQ’s in the Rosa-Luxemburg-Strasse 15, which is on show until 16 March 2019.

This artist book is being published in occasion of Philipp Gufler’s exhibition “I wanna give you devotion” in Munich in Sept 2017. The exhibition combines historical posters and flyers with works by 29 artists and collectives, which Gufler specifically invited in order to question, actualize and expand on the poster collection of the archive forum homosexualität münchen e.V.. A selection of this historical and current material is collected within the artist book and is extended through text contribution by Kerstin Stakemeier/Philipp Gufler and members of the forum. It’s been published by the Hammann Von Mier Verlag in the forum-series „Splitter“, which discusses historical and sociocultural issues and presents historical figures.

Im Zentrum von Philipp Guflers Ausstellung „I wanna give you devotion“ steht die Poster- und Videosammlung des nselbstorganisierten Archivs forum homosexualität münchen e.V., in dem der Künstler seit 2013 Mitglied ist.
Zur Ausstellung hat Gufler 29 Künstler*innen und Kollektive eingeladen, die Postersammlung zu befragen, zu erweitern und zu aktualisieren. Diese Weiterschreibungen werden zusammen mit historischen Postern der Sammlung gezeigt, wodurch ein dichtes Geflecht aus aktuellem und historischem Material entsteht. Die Videoarbeit „Schemata #01 (I wanted to give you devotion)“ von Philipp Gufler, Byron Kalomamas und Angela Stiegler spinnt die Verknüpfungen weiter: Archivmaterial trifft auf Youtube-Clips, (Künstler-) Filme von Chantal Akerman, Jean Genet und Pedro Almodóvar auf Popkultur, Gusti vom Ochstengarten auf Britney Spears und Spots der Deutschen AIDS-Hilfe auf Songtexte. Es entsteht ein Archiv der Gefühle, persönlicher Erfahrungen, politischer Kämpfe und des Begehrens, das die Geschichte in die Gegenwart zieht: aktuelle Diskriminierungen und Ausgrenzungen zeigen sich genauso wie das ungestillte Begehren für nicht-normative Lebensformen.
Zur Ausstellung erscheint das gleichnamige Künstlerbuch als „Splitter 14“ mit Texten von Kerstin Stakemeier und Mitgliedern des Forums in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Hammann Von Mier Verlag.

On Wednesday, September 6 2017 „I WANNA GIVE YOU DEVOTION“ opens. Philipp Gufler realized the exhibition in cooperation with the self-organized archive forum homosexualität münchen e.V..
Key element is the poster and video collection of the forum, from which an archive of feelings, personal experiences, political battles and desire emerges. The exhibition combines historical posters and flyers with works by 29 artists and collectives, which Gufler specifically invited in order to question, actualize and expand on the poster collection. Historical and current material interweaves to a dense mesh. The video work “Schemata #01 (I wanted to give you devotion)" by Philipp Gufler, Byron Kalomamas and Angela Stiegler, which is shown in the interior of the installation, amplifies the poster mesh on the exterior by text and audio fragments. Archive material from the forum homosexualität münchen e.V. meets found footage from the Internet, (artist) films by Chantal Akerman, Jean Genet and Pedro Almodóvar meet German AIDS - Help clips, Gusti Ochsengarten meets Britney Spears, witness accounts meet song lyrics. „I WANNA GIVE YOU DEVOTION“ describes the desire for a past and a future that "is - not - yet - here", for non-normative ways of living whose beginnings can be found in the forum's archive, as well as a desire for a story which goes against the ruling majority.

The archive "forum homosexualität münchen e.V."
was founded in April 1999 as a self-organizing association by a group
of lesbian and gay history enthusiasts. Ever since they have been
working to support scientifically and culturally relevant research on
the history and daily life of lesbians, gays, transsexuals and
bisexuals, to collect these materials and make them available to a wider
public.
Philipp Gufler has been a member of the "Archive forum for
homosexuality Munich" since 2013. In 2014 he presented his video
installation "Projections on the crisis (Gauweilereien in München)" and
published an accompanying artist's book of the same title. In this
project Gufler dealt with the 1980s and the catalogue of measures
against AIDS devised by the Bavarian government at the time. Since then
other works have been developed from his studies at the "Archive forum
for homosexuality munich", such as his silkscreen series "Quilt“ or his
video portrait of Erich Haas (with Liane Kingler). During the guided
tour Philipp Gufler will give an introduction to the holdings of the
archive and his own artistic research.

Since 1999, the archive “Forum Homosexualität München e.V.” has been collecting documents on gay and lesbian movements in Munich. Artist Philipp Gufler focused his research on the AIDS-crisis and the repressive politics in Munich during the 80ies by the bavarian state government. In his video-installation and the accompanying artist’s book “Projektion auf die Krise. Gauweilereien in München”, documentary material opposes artworks of friends to update and comment on the historical.

Die Filminstallation entstand während einer Residency des Künstlers Richard John Jones im vergangenen Sommer in Lothringer 13_Florida. Ausgehend von der Recherche nach verlorenen lesbischen und schwulen Orten in München beinhaltete die Residency eine Tour mit Ariane Rüdiger auf der Suche nach verschwundenen lesbischen Orten, die Eröffnung einer temporären lesbischen Bar namens Moby Dyke, einen Auftritt der Künstlerin Cosy Pièro mit Meike Illig und die Digitalisierung von Materialien aus Cosy Pièros Privatbesitz, unter anderem Fotos aus Bei Cosy, ihrer berühmt-berüchtigten Künstlerkneipe während der Sechziger- und Siebziger Jahre. Ein Rückblick auf die Residency befindet sich hier.
Die Installation präsentiert einen Film, der am Ende der Residency produziert und im Moby Dyke gedreht wurde. Er beinhaltet Livemusik von Cosy Pièround Meike Illig und eine Performance von Maximiliane Baumgartner und Mirja Reuter, die Teil ihres fortlaufenden, seriellen Projekts True Lives of Performers ist. Archivaufnahmen wurden dankenswerterweise vom Forum Homosexualität München zur Verfügung gestellt. Weitere Darsteller sind Maria Cincotta, Johanna Gonschorek, Philipp Gufler, Leo Heinik und Fabian Hesse.

This screening installation is one of the outcomes of a residency Richard John Jones conducted this past summer at Lothringer 13_Florida. Beginning with research into the lost lesbian and gay spaces in Munich, the residency included a tour of Munich’s lost lesbian venues by Ariane Rüdiger, the opening of a temporary lesbian bar called the Moby Dyke, a performance from artist Cosy Pièro and Meike Illig and the digitisation of photographs from Bei Cosy, a popular artist haunt throughout the 60s and 70s. A review of the various activities can be found here.
This installation showcases a film that was produced at the end of the residency and shot within the Moby Dyke. It features live music performed by the artist Cosy Pièro and Meike Illig and a performance by Maximiliane Baumgartner and Mirja Reuter which is part of their ongoing collaborative practice entitled True Lives of Performers. Archival footage included within the film is all courtesy of the Forum Homosexualität, Munich. The film also features performances by Maria Cincotta, Johanna Gonschorek, Philipp Gufler, Leo Heinik and Fabian Hesse.

Beginning with research into the lost lesbian and gay spaces in Munich, the residency included a tour of Munich’s lost lesbian venues by Ariane Rüdiger, the opening of a temporary lesbian bar called the Moby Dyke, a performance from artist Cosy Pièro and Meike Illig and the digitisation of photographs from Bei Cosy, a popular artist haunt throughout the 60s and 70s. A review of the various activities can be found here.
This installation showcases a film that was produced at the end of the residency and shot within the Moby Dyke. It features live music performed by the artist Cosy Pièro and Meike Illig and a performance by Maximiliane Baumgartner and Mirja Reuter which is part of their ongoing collaborative practice entitled True Lives of Performers. Archival footage included within the film is all courtesy of the Forum Homosexualität, Munich. The film also features performances by Maria Cincotta, Johanna Gonschorek, Philipp Gufler, Leo Heinik and Fabian Hesse.

Πώς μπορεί κανείς να αποσταθεροποιήσει τις σταθερές αναπαραστάσεις της Ιστορίας; Μεταφέροντας το παρελθόν προς το μέλλον αλλά και προς τα πίσω, κάθε μία από τις επιλεγμένες ταινίες εστιάζει σε διαφορετικούς τρόπους για τα χρονικά αρχεία, τα οποία πολιτικοποιούν και αναγνωρίζουν τη ρευστότητα και την αστάθεια των ταυτοτήτων και των χώρων. Σε αυτές τις παράξενες απεικονίσεις του χρόνου, οι οποίες είναι πιο εύθραυστες και γεμάτες χάρη από ό, τι είναι τα παραδοσιακά αρχεία και οι τρόποι αφήγησης, οι ελλείπουσες πληροφορίες είναι το κύριο περιεχόμενο αλλά και η εστίασή τους. Περιλαμβάνουν το προσωπικό στο πολιτικό, το μικροσκοπικό σε μία μεγαλύτερη κλίμακα δομών- την οικειότητα, τη σεξουαλικότητα, τα συναισθήματα, την οργή και το φόβο – για να ξεκινήσει μια προβολή που έρχεται σε αντίθεση με τις κυρίαρχες αφηγήσεις.

Σε αυτό το workshop θα μελετήσουμε κάποια αποσπάσματα από το βιβλίο An Archive of Feelings της Ann Cvetkovich, στο οποίο μιλάει για τα λεγόμενα «λαϊκά» αρχεία, τα οποία έχουν συλλέξει υλικό και έχουν έρθει για πρώτη φορά στη διάθεση του κοινού μέσα σε ιδιωτικά διαμερίσματα: “Η βαθιά συναισθηματική δύναμη ενός χρήσιμου αρχείου, ειδικά ενός αρχείου για της σεξουαλικότητα και την ζωή των ομοφυλόφιλων αντρών και γυναικών,το οποίο πρέπει να διατηρηθεί και να παράγει όχι μόνο γνώσεις, αλλά και συναισθήματα.” Δουλεύοντας με τη θεωρία αυτή, θέλουμε να δούμε υλικό από αρχεία queer, π.χ. Φόρουμ München Homosexualität München, ένα μη κερδοσκοπικό οργανισμό που συλλέγει από το 1999, υλικό από την γκέι και λεσβιακή κοινότητα , προκειμένου να αμφισβητήσει την κωδικοποίηση της ταυτότητας και την κατασκευή της ιστορίας.

Ο καλλιτέχνης Philipp Gufler (* 1989) ζει στο Μόναχο. Το έργο του καλύπτει μια ποικιλία μέσων (τυπώματα, performance,video, και πολλά άλλα). Σπούδασε στην Ακαδημία Καλών Τεχνών του Μονάχου, την Ακαδημία Design της Καρλσρούης, και το Πανεπιστήμιο του Άμστερνταμ. How to destabilize fixed representations of history? Transporting the past into the future and backwards, each of the selected films are focusing in different ways on temporal archives, which politicize and acknowledge the fluidity and instability of identities and spaces. In these queer visualizations of time, which are more fluent and fragile than traditional archives and ways of storytelling, the missing informations are their main content and focus. They include the personal as political, the micro to the macro-scale structure – intimacy, sexuality, feelings, anger and fear – to launch a projection that runs counter to dominant narratives.

In the workshop we are looking on excerpts of the book An Archive of Feelings by Ann Cvetkovich, in which she writes about so-called grassroots archives, which collect material and were first made publicly available in private flats: „The profoundly affective power of a useful archive, especially an archive of sexuality and gay and lesbian life, which must preserve and produce not just knowledge, but feelings.” Working with this theory, we want to look at materials from queer archives, e.g. Forum München Homosexualität München, a nonprofit organization collecting since 1999 materials from the gay and lesbian movement, in order to question the codifying of identity and the construction of history.

The artist Philipp Gufler (* 1989) lives in Munich. His work spans a variety of media (prints, performances, video work, and more). He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, the Academy of Design Karlsruhe, and the University of Amsterdam. His work has been shown at “Loop” in Barcelona, Kunstverein München, “Videonale15” at Kunstmuseum Bonn and in the galleries Françoise Heitsch in Munich and Sassa Trülzsch in Berlin. Ein Filmporträt von Philipp Gufler und Liane Klingler
Mit einer Einführung von Albert Knoll, Vorsitzender Forum Homosexualität München, und anschließender Diskussion mit Erich Haas.
Die Veranstaltung findet in Kooperation mit dem Forum Homosexualität München statt.
Das Filmporträt erzählt die sozialen und politischen Repressionen gegenüber Homosexuellen im Nachkriegsdeutschland anhand eines Gesprächs mit dem 95 Jährigen Erich Haas nach, der als Empfangschef in Hotels in München nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg arbeitete. Am Stachus, einem damaligen schwulen „Brennpunkt“, lernte Haas 1949 seinen Freund Klaus Linde kennen, mit dem er bis zu dessen Tod 1988 zusammenlebte. Zusammen waren sie Ende der 50er die Besitzer einer kleinen „Herrenbar“ in der Nähe des Isartors, die Haas im Film das erste Mal seitdem wieder besuchte.
Ihr Leben stand im Schatten des §175, der 1872 im deutschen Kaiserreich in Kraft trat, 1935 von den Nazis verschärft wurde und auch nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg weiter gleichgeschlechtliche Liebe kriminalisierte. Haas und Linde kamen mehrmals mit dem Paragraphen in Berührung, der erst 1969 entschärft wurde.
Ein Gespräch mit Erich Haas über den § 175, die schwule Szene in den 1950er und 60er Jahren, die weiterhin ins gesellschaftlich Unsichtbare gedrängt wurde, und seine Liebe zu Klaus.

Das ehrenamtlich geleitete Archiv Forum Homosexualität München e.V. sammelt seit 1999 Dokumente, die die Schwulen- und Lesbenbewegung in München nacherzählen. Ich habe ich mich dort vor allem mit Materialien aus den 1980er-Jahren beschäftigt – einer Zeit, in der Münchens repressive Politik gegen Homosexuelle einen Höhepunkt erreichte: Das Ankommen der "Aids Krise" in der Bundesrepublik und die bayerische Antwort darauf, die in einem Maßnahmenkatalog des damaligen Staatssekretärs Peter Gauweiler bestand, welcher Zwangstests und Absonderung vorsah. Die Videoinstallation und das Magazin "Projektion auf die Krise (Gauweilereien in München)" sammelt Dokumente aus dieser Zeit. Arbeiten befreundeter Künstler aktualisieren und kommentieren das historische Material aus den 80ern. Das Magazin erscheint im Verlag H A M M A N N & V O N M I E R. Beteiligte: Maximiliane Baumgartner, Adrian Djukic, Gürsoy Dogtas, Florian Gass, Albert Knoll, Dr.med. Seminare zur Gegenwart / Kerstin Stakemeier und Philipp Gufler: "Eingeschlossen in München — Erzählungen Nicht-Heterosexueller Leben in München"

Eingeladen von Kerstin Stakemeier (geb. 1975), Jun. Professorin am cx Centrum für interdisziplinäre Studien der Akademie der Bildenden Künste München, soll Philipp Guflers Arbeit an und mit dem wachsenden Archiv in einem zweiteiligen Seminar zum Ausgangspunkt einer Vergegenwärtigung werden. Gufler versucht, die von ihm nicht erlebte Geschichte in die Gegenwart zu ziehen, darin Anfangspunkte einer "queeren" Gegenwart zu schaffen, eine Projektion zu starten, die jener der herrschenden Erzählung entgegenläuft. Stakemeier nähert sich diesem Ziel aus der umgekehrten Richtung, ausgehend von der Frage: Was ist der Status der Geschlechterrollen, der sexuellen Identifizierungen in der krisengeschüttelten Gegenwart? Wie lässt sich die Münchner Oberfläche anhand von Gegenmodellen destabilisieren, die um sie herum und in ihrer Mitte koexistieren? Wie lässt sich die Münchner Heterosexualität "queeren"?
Der Workshop sammelt Materialien einer solchen Destabilisierung, um sie gemeinsam zu diskutieren und die Ränder der Münchner Gesellschaft ins Zentrum zu ziehen
